Appliance noise levels are rated in decibels, the lower the decibel number the quieter the appliance.
The one product a lot of our customers worry about when it comes to noise levels, is the dishwasher. In the early days of dishwashers, they were all pretty loud when working, generally about 60 – 80 decibels, which is louder than a normal conversation. In fact, you can see from the diagram above that 80 decibels is about as noisy as a tractor engine running in your kitchen!
Thankfully technology has come a long way and the noisiest dishwasher Siemens currently have on the market is 48db, with the quietist being just 39db. If you are looking for quiet however, anything with a rating of 44db or lower is generally considered acceptable. If you opt for a dishwasher with the added function of a ‘Night-time’ or ‘Silence’ Programme, this will give you a programme which reduces the noise levels even further by decreasing the spray pressure, but increasing the run time. So if you purchase a machine with a rating of 44db or less and use it on its Night or Silence setting, you really shouldn’t have anything to disturb you.
