Colourful Funky Kitchen

At first sight this kitchen looks deceptively like a beautiful but standard hand painted, shaker style kitchen in classic cream with an ‘on trend’ denim blue peninsular and small black wooden door knobs. This Funky Kitchen doesn’t stop with the denim peninsular however, as when you open a door or drawer you are met with a ‘pop’ of brilliant colour, be it in jazzy orange, vibrant green, sunny yellow or hot pink.

We originally made a kitchen to this style with these amazing vibrant colours including a huge metal ‘M’ wall hanging finished in bright yellow, in 2013. The owners absolutely loved it and when their home featured in the October 2013 edition of 25 Beautiful Homes magazine, they named the kitchen as their favourite room. Fast forward a few years and the family was moving to a larger property in Dorset which required completely renovating. Our client contacted us to say they were moving but “We LOVE our Butterfield kitchen it makes us all very happy”. They asked us to create a similar style colourful funky kitchen for them in their new property. This time, instead of the kitchen having a room of its own, the brief was to “build a kitchen that would go in a giant family room with sofa’s and squishy things as well as kitchen stuff.” They went on to ask us to create a bespoke antique/vintage style freestanding fridge freezer. The original brief for this was to make it “look like it was in a Desert in Argentina for 50 years until they found it last week”. In reality however, the beauty of the Ash wood looked fabulous, so our client asked us not to distress or age the unit, but to apply a finish that would preserve the natural beauty of the wood, and give more of a revamped vintage look to the piece rather than shabby chic.
