This Utility Room forms part of a large Country House. The design is almost as simple as the ‘Shaker’ style, but built with the warmth of natural Cats Paw/ Pippy Oak. The addition of a small beading and sculpted cornice raises this utility furniture to a grander level.
The walls of full height cupboards hide away the riding hats, boots, other paraphernalia associated with County Living and outdoor pursuits as well as storing the ever-awkward ironing board, house brushes and other utility items.
Immediately inside the back door is a boot bench and generous walk in coat cupboard, where outdoor clothing including riding hats and muddy boots can be put on and taken off without venturing further into the house. As you enter the room, the wall cupboards to the right open right to the floor, hiding away the boiler system required for a large home, a lockable gun safe, and large items such as floor cleaners which can be wheeled in and out of the cupboard without the user needing to lift them. One double cupboard area is also used to house the washing machine and tumble dryer, with shelves for baskets above, making a discreet laundry area.
The full height cupboards continue along the end wall, providing ample additional storage space. In the corner of the room is a space for the dogs. We even made a hand turned Oak dog gate separating this room from the rest of the house. The dog gate was designed to be high enough to prevent the dogs jumping over, but not too high so as to be imposing, and with bars wide enough to let the cats through, but not the dogs.
Located beneath the window is a 1½ bowl under-mounted ceramic sink with Perrin & Rowe Phoenician Mono bloc mixer tap with ceramic levers as well as an under-mounted wine fridge.
