Like a number of utility rooms, this Fully Fitted Utility forms a corridor between the kitchen and the back garden. With a door each end, windows each side and one corner already fully taken by the hot water system, space was limited. However, the customer wanted the Utility room to contain a ceramic Belfast sink, large enough to soak roasting trays. It also had to house a freestanding Miele washing machine and separate freestanding Miele tumble dryer. The customer also wanted this Utility Room to contain a full height fridge; a back up oven, large re-cycling bin and other cleaning related paraphernalia.
Our solution was to build the hot water system into a full height cupboard on the right, with a matching full height cupboard to the left, which housed both the washing machine and tumble dryer, stacked above. The small space to the edge of the appliances was made into cubbyhole shelving to store smaller items, with a larger double top cupboard above. This didn’t leave enough space for the large Belfast sink to sit beneath the window in the traditional manner however, so we turned the sink 90 degrees and built the worktop right back into the window recess, allowing enough space for the Perrin & Rowe mono block mixer tap to be mounted behind the sink and a small cupboard located beneath. We then made a bespoke stainless steel pull out bin to fit beside the sink, giving amble space for recycling.
With the fridge freezer and back-up oven on the other side of the room, this even left space for a baking tray drawer beneath the oven, two more base cupboards, a cupboard above the fridge freezer and even a small book/display shelf. The furniture was Hand Painted in the palest of blue eggshell and finished with Zimbabwe Black solid granite worktops honed to a matt finish. The simple panelled style matches the kitchen we also crafted for this property, which you can just see through one of the doorways.
