When looking for pale furniture, the usual choice is to opt for painted. If you still want to see the beauty of the wood however, a good option is to ‘mist’ the wood, which produces an effect often referred to as ‘Limed Oak’. To produce this effect the kitchen was produced in Solid Oak, which was then given a thin white ‘mist’ coat beneath the lacquer. This process leaves the wood an overall pale cream colour with the beauty of the grain highlighted by the misting and the natural colour of the wood glowing through.
This kitchen is located at one end of what was once a milking parlour, and now forms part of a light and airy open plan living space with a beamed and vaulted ceiling. The kitchen has been designed with Corian Worktops in the off-white ‘Abalone’ colouring to complement the misted wood with tall, full height cupboards angled to frame the Gothic arch windows. Glazed wall units have been added to echo the Gothic arch design of the windows.
The kitchen flows into the central working space containing integrated appliances, a traditional four oven Aga and a large central island unit. One end of the island has been lowered to table height, which breaks up the long length and provides a comfortable alternative working height within easy reach of the integrated stainless steel American Style Fridge Freezer. This lower end of the Island also provides a useful extra socket and charging area.
The opposite end of the Island contains a ‘flying’ hob which allows the cook to pull up a stool while they prepare the lunch, or stir the jam while chatting to friends and family gathered on the sofa’s or sat at the more formal octagonal table. This Dining table was designed to comfortably sit four people, with a central column ensuring the table is incredibly stable while no-one has to contend with sitting too close to the table leg. The table has been produced in solid Birch with a ‘Pippy Oak’ veneer and hexagonal Oak Burr at the centre. A full height bookcase has also been added to the centre of the room, which ties the kitchen furniture at one end, with the relaxed seating area at the other.
